How do you choose the best shower chair?

When a person no longer has the possibility to shower standing, the help is sometimes brought in from a shower chair. A shower chair is a waterproof seat or chair, which is attached to the wall or not. This tool is often used in ALS, strokes (CVA), amputations or other conditions where the stasis function is temporarily or permanently restricted.

When choosing a shower seat, some questions are important:

1. Is the limitation of the standing function Short-term(e.g. during rehabilitation or post-operative recovery) or restriction permanent?

2. Also the Self-sufficiency user's needs must be taken into account. Can the user enter the bathroom independently? Can the users come in and out of the shower independently? Does the user need help standing up and sitting down? Does he need additional support for stability?

3. What is the shower situation? How much space do you have in the bathroom? Is there a walk-in shower?

When these questions are answered, the selection process can be started.

  • With or without wheels

The choice of wheels or no wheels usually depends on the user's independence and access to the bathroom. If the shower seat is used in one place, then wheels are not needed. Needless transfers can be fixed using wheels.

- Shower Wheelchair: A shower Wheelchair is a shower chair with wheels that use hoops can be pushed forward yourself This offers a solution to people with e.g. an amputation living alone at home, so one can take a shower independently without help from third parties. Of course a walk-in shower is needed for this.

You often find toilet openings in shower chairs with wheels.can be placed above the toilet In cases of incontinence If you can place a bucket under the toilet, we'll speak of a shower-toilet chair.height adjustable and equipped with non-slip caps.

  • Foldable or not

If you have a very small shower room, then a folding seat can be used. For even more space savings it can be mounted on the wall, the advantage is that this one will then be cannot slip or fall over A folding seat can also have a toilet opening and armrests.

  • Shower chair with positioning device

Positioning device may be interesting for users who have insufficient hull stability They can be supported by Armrests or handles, footrests, or backrests Often these are adjustable in height and foldable, which helps with transfers.A soft seat and backrest offer a solution at antidecubitus. Finally, many shower chairs with positioning device tiltable, this makes the comfort optimal for the user. Also the care process is less intensive; since the feet are higher, they are easier to wash.
