Treatment of insect bites:
- Clean the bite: Clean the bite with soap and water to remove any bacteria.
- Decontinent: Use alcohol or disinfectant to disinfect the bite site.
- Cooling: Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and itching.
- Medicine: For itching and pain you can use a freely available anti-itching cream or antihistamines.
- Remove tick correctly: Use a special drawing tweezers to grab the tick as close to the skin as possible and gently pull it straight up.
When do you want to see the doctor?
- If signs of infection such as increased redness, swelling, pain, or pus formation.
- If severe allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat, dizziness or fainting after a bite or stab.
- If you cannot completely remove a tick or if the tick may have been on the skin for more than 24 hours.
- In symptoms of diseases transmitted by ticks such as Lyme disease (e.g. a red ring-shaped rash).
