When and by whom do you measure your stockings?

Size Stocking: The Importance of Correct Measurement

For the effective treatment of deep vein thrombosis or swelling in the legs, stockings should be measured when swelling is reduced to maximum. This usually happens after applying compression windings, exercise therapy and possibly lymph drainage. It is essential that there is no pitting anymore. Pitting refers to the dimples that arise when you press your thumb on the skin.

Who's measuring the stockings?

The measurement of your stockings must be carried out by an approved bandagist. Only in this way can you ensure that your stocking is fit and effective. Please note: The reimbursement for therapeutic compression stockings by your health insurance fund is limited and applies in specific cases. Please inform your bandagister which options are eligible for reimbursement.

Attracting Your Stockings: Steps and Tools

Without Attraction

Armstock:

  1. Form Check: Make sure that the arm stocking fits well by running the seam of the stocking over the elbow, in line with the shape of your arm.
  2. Fold: Fold the arm stocking double to just past the elbow piece.
  3. Apply: Pull the stocking over your arm to the elbow fold, so that the edge at the wrist is just below the bone protrusion.
  4. Attract: Fold the stocking again and pull it up to just below the armpit fold. If the stocking does not reach the armchair fold, it is too short.
  5. - Oh, my God. The arm stocking is comfortable when it covers the arm evenly without folds.

Glove:

  1. Attract: Put on the glove like any other gloves.
  2. Between the Fingers: Make sure that the fabric is pushed up between the fingers. Make a prayer sign with the other hand to achieve this.
  3. - Oh, my God. If the glove causes tingling or the fingertips are white or blue, consult a kinesitherapist of the lymphovenic center.

Legstock:

  1. Seam Position: If the legstock has a seam, make sure it runs over the middle of the back of the leg.
  2. Fold: Fold the leg tube to the edge of the heel.
  3. Foot placement: Place your toes in the opening and pull the pedestal over the foot to the heel.
  4. Apply: Pull the stocking completely over the heel and ankle joint. This can be the hardest part.
  5. Step by Step: Continue to lift the stocking in steps: pull the stocking on the lower leg and if necessary also on the upper leg. Pull up the stocking, fold and repeat if necessary.
  6. High stocking: In the case of upper leg stocking, it should be applied as high as possible to the buttock fold.

Compression pants:

  1. Two persons: It is easier to pull the compression pants with two persons: the wearer pulls up the trousers in front, while a second person pulls them up at the back.
  2. Height: Pull up the compression trousers as high as possible until the horizontal seam is in the groin.
