A separate world
A child with disabilities is a whole revolution for the family. A dream that is smashing. Suddenly you are confronted with the harsh reality and you step into the unknown without wanting it. A world of magical terms, all kinds of treatments, of cartloads of tools, of a tight timetable, of another family life often lacking privacy.
We do not go looking for the cause or why. We dont have the knowledge for that. Our group is not a complaining wall either. We don't waste our energy on that. However, we want to go step by step with a positive look on the way to a special live in the midst of our society.
Inform each other and strengthen each other.
We find that in Flanders there was a great need for our parent network. From the thousands of questions already posted on our network, this high need for information is evident. The tips that parents give each other make a world of difference for some parents. This is what we notice from the numerous positive responses of parents. Thus, practical tips put parents on the right way to their child's solution. This can be about small things such as structuring day-planning tips or tips on how to organise meals. Sometimes also about crucial tips which help parents financially move forward.
