After almost three years of training in healthcare technology, I can honestly still not answer all the questions easily. I can tell them that care technology includes all the low-tech and high-tech gadgets used in and around the healthcare sector, but obviously this can be seen very widely.assistive technology, care automation, care applications, robotics, call systems, access control, environment control, video and camera surveillance...
In the healthcare technology programme, we learn how to communicate with - and advise people in a good way, we see what is happening in the care sector and what the needs are. Then we also see what exists on the market, and what we need to think about when we look for the best solution to optimise the quality of life of the healthcare provider.Similarly, the ethical aspect of technology use in the healthcare sector is not forgotten.
What I can do with this later? Daat schloof is a good question. As a future care technician, I can choose to contribute in technological companies to the development of new projects. I can also work in health care institutions and rehabilitation centres, for example as an advisor for certain tools that are needed.The course is very multidisciplinary. Working with ergotherapists, nurses, physiotherapists, designers etc. is a must when you form the bridge between technological companies and the healthcare sector!
Especially in the area of home care is a strong demand. More and more elderly people can live at home for longer with care technology. Housing adjustments ensure accessibility, independence and comfort. This is also a great reason why I chose Freya Products as an internship.The ageing population is inevitable, and the longer home of older people . . which starts with mobile - I think a very important topic to think about.
Healthcare technology is a concept that has already been firmly established in countries like the Netherlands, Belgium is another story. My class and I will be the first Flemish graduates to have a bachelor's degree in healthcare technology. It has been quite a challenge to be the very first to follow the training, teachers who need to give subjects such as . .Advanced care systems . and . Health technology assessment . are not easily found. These are usually professionals from companies who share their experiences and professional knowledge with us.
It is still a very interesting training programme that offers many opportunities. If you take initiative and really want to go for it, you can build a more pleasant life for those who really need it with care technology.
