Long-term care (Wlz)

The Long-Term Care Act (Wlz) regulates heavy, intensive care for vulnerable elderly people, people with disabilities and people with mental illness.

Long-term care (Wlz)

How does someone qualify for long-term care from the Wlz?

The Centre Indication for Care (CIZ) assesses whether someone is eligible for care from the Wlz. You may be eligible if you need intensive care or supervision. If you meet the conditions, CIZ will issue a so-called WlZ indication. This is a decision stating that someone is entitled to long-term care.

What long-term care can people get in a healthcare institution?

With a Wlz indication, someone in a care institution gets all the guidance and care he needs.

Is it also possible to receive care at home?

With an Wlz indication, people can go to a nursing home, a disability institution or a ggz institution. But they can also choose to stay at home with intensive care. This is only possible if the situation at home is suitable for responsible and effective care. For example, this means that you can stay at your home safely and healthy. The Healthcare Office will talk to you about this and assess the situation.

People with an AWBZ indication

The Long-Term Care Act is the successor to the General Law on Special Sickness Costs (AWBZ). Not all people who were covered by the ABWZ until 2015 met the conditions for receiving Wlz care. Therefore, they had a transitional regime until 1 January 2016. For a small group of people the transitional regime has been extended.
