Meeting in the price of wheelchairs / rollators

If you need a wheelchair or a rollator, your health insurance fund will meet the price of a number of types. This also applies to a number. If you are entitled to a grant, please follow the application procedure.

What wheelchairs and other mobility aids are eligible ?

Your health insurance fund can accommodate different types of wheelchairs and other mobility aids (scooters, running aids, orthopaedic tricycles, standing systems).


What are the conditions for compensation?

Your sickness fund will only be entitled to:

  • as the following 2 General conditions are fulfilled:
    • The wheelchair or other mobility tool is on the reimbursement list accepted mobility aids .
    • An approved bandagist delivered the wheelchair or other mobility tool.

AND

  • if you meet the following conditions:Specific conditions your doctor can give you more information about this.

How does the application process go?

The application procedure consists of the following:7 steps:

  1. You will consult your doctor.

  2. Your doctor will give you a medical prescription (= Annex 19) for a wheelchair or other mobility tool.

  3. You will contact an approved bandagist and give him/her:
    • your doctor's medical prescription
    • if necessary: multidisciplinaryfunctional report (=Annex 19a). Some wheelchairs / other mobility aids require a multidisciplinary team to describe your functioning at different levels in your environment. Your doctor or bandacist can give you more information about this.

  4. The approved bandagist proposes a specific type of wheelchair or other mobility tool. He does so based on your needs and the technical possibilities available. He sends the following documents to your health insurance fund:
    • a statement of reasons (= Annex 19b)
    • an application for insurance meeting (= Annex 20)
      Important      : you do not send documents to your sickness fund.

  5. The medical adviser of your sickness fund will examine your application and decide. These are the possibilities:
    • He can approve your application.
    • He may refuse your application.
    • He could ask for additional information.
    • He may ask you to have your medical examination.

  6. The sickness fund shall inform you of the decision and of your bandagist.

  7. Only on approval: the approved bandagist will deliver you the wheelchair or other mobility tool.

Note: For a running tool there is no application procedure, so no agreement is required from the Counseling physician. There is concession from a running tool as the recognized bandagist a medical prescription (=Annex 19) and one certificate for delivery (= Annex 13a) submit to your sickness fund.

What do you have to pay for yourself?

The fact that the sickness fund meets the price of your wheelchair or other mobility tool does not always mean that you do not have to pay anything out of your own pocket! For certain types of wheelchairs and other mobility equipment, the allowance is equal to part of the total price. You will then have to cover the remaining part of your price yourself.

Details of the prices, benefits and amounts to be paid yourself are included in the list of mobility aids accepted for reimbursement. If you have specific questions about this, please contact your health insurance fund or bandacist at any time.
