- Did you know that...?

Did you know that you can reduce the risk of falling by improving your balance? Scientific studies show that a bad balance is an important cause of falling, but also have a fear of falling. In these studies exercises and trainings were given each time that stimulate balance. After 12 weeks of training was already a big difference; the balance was much better, which reduced the fall rate, and thus also reduced the fear of dropping.

What exercises can you do to improve the balance?

These can be simple exercises, for which you take a while every day:

  • Walking on the tips of your toes or on your heels
  • Walking backwards
  • Sidewalking
  • Step over objects
  • Picking up objects by bending

Tai Chi is also an ideal exercise to maintain mobility and balance. Tai chi is a sequence of movements that are performed quietly, slowly and continuously. These health exercises are slow, soft and suitable for all ages.

But dancing also helps to strengthen balance, and keep the motor skills. There are a number of associations that work to make seniors dance during some cool dance afternoons.

Tip
: First, go with a physicist or doctor to find out what is the best way for you to strengthen your balance and/or muscles, avoiding unnecessary risk derivatives!
