Here are five tips to deal mentally with an injury:

When you are forced to stop exercising because of an injury, it can be extremely frustrating, especially if sports is your main outlet. Therefore, we share some tips below that can help you get through this period mentally.

Five tips for dealing with an injury in the mental field:

  1. It's only temporary.

Frustration and grief are often the biggest mental side effects of an injury, says Aaptiv trainer Kelly Chase. It's normal to feel bad, but you still have a choice how to handle it. Accept that your recovery plan needs to be followed and remember that the injury is temporary.

  1. You'll spend your time.

Research new activities to fill your time and not to dwell too much on the pain of your injury. By putting your energy into other things, you probably feel better, Aaptiv Trainer Candice Cunningham advises. Work on your mentality and find other activities that make you happy.

  1. Eat healthy

Your diet affects not only your body, but also how you feel. Adjust your diet to eat healthy food that will give you energy during your recovery. Try the delicious basic recipe'shakshuka'with egg, goat cheese and avocado.

  1. Do low intensity training to stay active

It's tempting to be on the couch all day, but experts still advise movement. Talk with your doctor about what forms of motion are suitable for you. Maybe you can try an effective low-impact cardioworkout.

  1. Set new targets

To stay motivated, set new goals for when you can play sports again. Discuss with your doctor when you will be able to return fully and make a plan to show 100 percent of the stakes again.
